The new fieldhouse and auxiliary gym practice area for Kankakee Schools forms a brand new way for teams at the school to be able to practice and play. HAV.Design worked with DLA Architects to design the updated sound and video systems for the impressive new sports complex. Tim Hamilton was the principal designer for the audio system with QSC loudspeakers, amplifiers, and QSC core processors to implement systems that are both easy to use and sound  great.

Interactive and Full Coverage

Not only did the AV systems cover the new 55,000 square-foot field house, but HAV.Design also implemented AV support for the dressing rooms, team rooms, and the auxiliary gym space. The new upper level community/team room AV system utilized three displays (one projector and two flat-panel displays) to allow the school board, athletic teams, group events and various other groups from the community to use the space. While the system allows for simple presentations, it also has the capability for users to draw and annotate over fixed and live images so that school teams can quickly and efficiently review film and make notes that everyone can see.

How the Space is Covered

The fieldhouse is divisible into five separate zones, allowing the system to address the entire space, the track around the outside, or any combination of the three courts that are contained inside the track. The northernmost court is a wood court designed to allow competition sports for basketball, volleyball, and other indoor sports. Bleachers located on the north side allow spectators to view games with the sound system being designed so that the main speakers cover both the court and spectator seating area. A dual 15-inch subwoofer from Danley Sound Labs provides additional low-frequency support for the QSC E115 loudspeakers that provides primary coverage to the space. Several wireless microphones as well as wired audio inputs throughout the space allow users to easily interface with the system.

Accommodating Indoor Teams

The district really wanted to have an indoor “turf” facility and the design team worked hard to make the new auxiliary gym space a fantastic room for indoor practice. With thirty yards of turf and the full width of a football field, the space is large enough to accommodate almost any team.

The new sound system with wireless mics and bluetooth audio are sure to make any practice a great one. We are proud of our work at Kankakee Schools and would be glad to help you in your space as well.
