The modern-day church typically excels at managing a limited amount of resources – Trinity Lutheran Church is no exception.  Having sensed a need to provide a contemporary worship experience for the community, the church took it upon themselves to renovate an existing gym space into a makeshift worship center, building the AVL system from extra gear.  However, as the makeshift room became more and more a critical part of the ministry of Trinity Lutheran Church, the need to build a modern, polished space and capable systems grew as well. In seeking to accommodate the AVL needs of Trinity Lutheran Church, John Van Houten of Progressive|AE reached out to Hamilton AV Design, to evaluate and design a new, future-proof system.  The space was clearly unrefined – the piece-meal nature of its initial development contributed to severe acoustical issues, accompanied by rough visual finishes throughout.  These elements presented the space in a negative light, distracting congregants in their attempts to participate in the worship service. Tim Hamilton, owner of Hamilton AV Design, worked closely with Progressive|AE and contractors to assess the needs of the space and to deliver a comprehensive, long-term AVL system for Trinity Lutheran Church’s sanctuary.  The design features Fulcrum Acoustics loudspeakers driven by a capable Crown amplifier, providing excellent and consistent coverage throughout the audience.  Controlled in the Q-SYS environment, the system also features an A&H mixing console and in-ear monitor system, centralizing control of the audio system seamlessly over a network switch.  Video signals from the computer and various cameras throughout the space are brought into the network via Visionary Solutions network transmitters and receivers controlled within Q-SYS, enabling seamless transitions between visual aids & content throughout various sections of the worship service. In addition to the main worship space, the adjacent lobby area is connected via a folding glass wall.  Distributed ceiling speakers along with several wall-mounted displays allow for the space to function as a stand-alone meeting space or as an overflow for larger services such as Easter and Christmas.  A PTZ camera in the main worship space let’s participants in the overflow area better see what’s happening on the platform.  Additional smaller system upgrades were also completed in the youth space and in the choir. “The sanctuary looks and sounds amazing now!” Bob Lindstrom, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church commented.  “And it all came together really smoothly, thanks to Tim’s experience in coordinating his design with the architect’s.” With the architectural and AVL updates complete, the once makeshift space is both visually pleasing and fully capable of meeting the demand for contemporary worship in its community.
